The Merry Fiddlers is a family pub with a good atmosphere and more importantly good pub grub!!

We are situated very close to numerous Epping Forest walks and the Central Line Station is just a 10 min walk away.

The camp site is a grass site, Well behaved dogs and children are welcome.

The Merry Fiddlers Certificated Site

Sparrows Campsite has 6 luxury Bell tents available in the main wildflower meadow, each one named after the different variety of trees that are found in the woodlands surrounding the campsite.


The tents are set in their own private “settlement” in the meadow surrounded by a woven fence barrier to making it feel like you’re in your own wild off-grid camp! You’ll find everything you need for your stay within your settlement, but the emphasis is on keeping it simple at the same time. Each area has a campfire at the heart of the settlement with seating as well as an outdoor dining area too. 

The Bell tents are fully furnished with beds, mattresses and bedding, all you'll need to bring is a towel.

The settlements are close to the campsite's shower and toilet facilities, so if nature calls you don't have to walk half a mile to get to them in the middle of the night!

Sparrows campsite also offers the option of wild camping in a number of beautiful areas around the campsite. There are 5 pitches available and all are set in their own private area with a campfire and picnic table. So if you have your own tent or campervan all you have to do is book a pitch and turn up! 


You will have access to the hot showers and the rest of the campsite facilities which are only a short walk from the wild camping area.

This medieval church, with parts dating from the 1100s, stands next to the grounds of Stansted Hall. The setting is peaceful despite the convenience of the nearby motorway and airport. It contains two exceptional seventeenth-century tomb figures, those of wasp-waisted Hester Salusbury in her hunting clothes and her father Sir Thomas Middleton.

Inside, the church is light and spacious. There is a 500-year-old timber door that still swings on its ancient hinges – even though it now leads to a blocked north doorway! Another quirky feature is the nineteenth-century vestry – its walls are lined from top to bottom with thousands of cockle shells – the emblem of St James. The monuments in the church walls and floor are a fascinating record of those who once lived here.

Water Lily Lodge is approached down a country track and situated on the edge of a hidden lake, offering beautiful water front views. Enjoy the comfort and luxury this cabin has to offer surrounded by wildlife and nature.

With a hot tub positioned in front of the cabin, overlooking the lake, there is really no reason to leave the property during your stay. However, if you fancy some exercise there are some beautiful walks in the neighbouring ancient woodland, a 10 minute walk from the cabin.

Please note the property is situated on an unfenced lake so care should be taken at all times.

Pets – Dogs & Cats - Pets are allowed with prior approval. There is a £20 charge p/pet p/stay. Pets are allowed in the property at your own risk but please ensure they are clean before they enter. You will be responsible for any damage or mess that may be caused by them.

Damages & Breakages - A holding deposit of £200 will be taken at the time of booking for any damage to the property, including when it is left in an unsatisfactory state and also any noise disturbance, so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level. Please note that this deposit will be returned to you after your stay, providing there has been no damage or noise complaints. Any items left behind must be claimed within two weeks of departure. If relevant, postage and packing charges for the return of goods will apply. Please notify us of any damage or mess to the property or its contents before your departure.

Recycling - Please make use of the recycling facilities provided. We have recycling bins for glass & general waste. Please note that our general waste is collected by CSH Environmental who have a state-of-the-art recycling centre where all your general waste is sorted and recycled. Chelmer Park provides a generously sized adventure play area at it is heart with lots of play gear for 3 to 12 year olds and gym that is outdoor for teenagers and grownups, football pitches, netball and tennis courts, plus oodles of open space to try out in therefore simply take your frisbees, bats and balls!  In addition to the array of displaying opportunities available the park is well utilized by strolling families, cyclists and dog walkers enjoying the play areas, cycle route and substantial aspects of available space. Chelmer Park also recently received the nationally acclaimed Green Flag Award for areas quality. You'll find Chelmer Park along Beehive Lane.
