The Stansted Park Light Railway is a 7 and a quarter inch gauge miniature railway in the grounds of Stanstec House in Hampshire, and next to the Stansted Park Garden Centre. The track is half a mile long and runs through the house grounds. Addititionally there is a 6 road engine shed and workshop, plus a turntable. The railway opened in 2005, with quite modest beginnings, but through the years, the amount of volunteers has grown, along with the locomotive fleet, which has one steam and three petrol hydraulic locomotives. Please be aware that while the railway is totally family friendly, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If you fancy making a day of it, there are the Edwardian home and Grounds of Stansted Park, with a Grade II Listed country house set on a 1750 acre estate inside the Southern Downs National Park. Please note we only run trains on Wednesday and Saturday from 10:30hrs with the last train leaving the station at 15:45hrs. The operation of trains is subject to weather and staffing levels.
