Thacka Lea Caravan Park is located in Penrith, Cumbria which is the heart of the Eden valley and the gateway to the Lake District. It is the perfect base to explore the Lake District and Eden Valley in your touring caravan or motorhome.

We are located at the north end of the small market town of Penrith. Penrith is a historic market town and an attractive tourist centre. Within the town there are many traditional and specialist food, clothing and gift shops as well as many cafes, restaurants and pubs. The museum and castle give a great insight into the history of Penrith. In addition to shopping and history, Penrith has many leisure and sporting facilities to offer as well as good bus and rail transport links for days out around Cumbria.

The toilet and shower block has hot showers and a shaver point. Additional facilities include a washing up area, waste disposal and recycling bins. 

The Park is pet friendly, but dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

Between Easter and end of September (weather permitting) we have a stunning Safari style tent. If you are looking for a unique and beautiful get away our tent is perfect for you. We can offer you camping but with the luxury of a comfortable double bed with bedding to relax in after a day exploring all the stunning Western Lakes has to offer. Step outside onto your own private decking for panoramic views of our local fells and straight towards Skiddaw. Inside the tent is a very comfortable double bed with bedding, bedside cabinet, Ratan rug on the floor, lighting from fairy lights on the ceiling and a bedside lamp, there is a toaster, kettle, 2x plates, bowls, mugs, cuttlery and a electric point. The tent is set up for upto 2 people sharing a double bed, there is room for a put up bed or travel cot to accommodate children, please get in touch with your requirements and I will be happy to help. Outside to enjoy the beautiful scenery is a table & chairs and chiminea.

A warm welcome to our quality farm cottages!

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life by staying on our family-run working farm, located in the rolling countryside of the Derwent Valley. All our cottages have outstanding views of the surrounding hills and countryside, and provide everything you require for a relaxing holiday.

Alongside our beautiful cottages we also offer a variety of camping experiences, we have a Camping and Caravanning club certificated site with 5 hardstanding pitches and camping pod which are open all year round, between Easter and end of September (weather permitting) we also offer 10 grass tent pitches, a Belle Tent and Safari tent. All of these use our purpose built toilet block and laundry facilities, fully under floor heated.

We pride ourselves on being child-friendly, pet-friendly and environment-friendly. We are lucky enough to have a natural tarn on our land that is a magnet for wildlife. From our specially built hide, you can spot nesting swans, geese, ducks and even the occasional otter. Barn owls roost in the eaves of one of the cottages and we regularly see red squirrels feeding in the grounds.

A small, secluded campsite catering for all types of campers, whether couples, families, groups or singles. Tents, trailer tents, caravans and campervans accepted. Pet-friendly and peaceful place to stay.

We do not accept campervans or motorhomes over 6 metres in length.

Whinfell Hall Farm Camp Site

- We don’t have set pitches. Just pick your spot.
- We are a grass site for tents and campervans (VWT5 maximum size). No motorhomes.
- We are a family site and will not accept all male or female groups of more than 4.
- Duke of Edinburgh students, Scouts, Walking/Climbing clubs are welcome but must be pre-arranged.
- We allow contained raised fire pits and barbecues until 11pm but you must bring your own. Campfires are not allowed.
- You can park beside your tent on some of our fields except in adverse weather conditions. - The other fields have parking bays next to them and cannot be accessed by car.
- We allow dogs on site but they must be kept under control. Please clean up after your dog immediately.
- There is no wifi or electric hook up on site. You bring everything you need with you.
- Showers, toilets, a washing up area, bins and drinking water are provided.
- There is a corner shop in the village- a 10 minute walk away.
- A freezer is available for ice packs. 
- A plug for hairdryers/straighteners is available in the ladies for 50p.


Grass pitch

Baysbrown Farm Campsite is located in the village of Chapel Stile at the entrance to the Great Langdale Valley in the heart of the Lake District. We are a working Lakeland sheep farm with an area set aside for camping. We like to be pretty casual about camping and operate on a first come first-served basis - Turn up and pick your spot. 

There are no set pitches. Being in a valley bottom means we are exposed to the elements and it can be very wet and windy if we get a typical British summer. We want you to come along and enjoy the area when the weather suits offering flexibility and spontaneity.

The views from the campsite are spectacular and the valley is a superb location for those that love the great outdoors. It is a perfect base for walking, climbing, bouldering and ghyll scrambling. Run on the trails or fells swim in the tarns and becks. Bring your bikes. From the site explore Ambleside, Coniston, Grasmere and Hawkshead villages. All within a 15-minute drive.

We have a number of fantastic camping pods on site! They're perfect for a spot of glamping. Each pod comes with electrical sockets, lighting, blinds for your privacy, decking to sit and enjoy a fire and a beer, an enclosed garden to allow your dogs to room free. Shared facilities and kitchen lean to with communal fridge, oven and microwave. Bedding can be provided for an additional charge.

Offering 15 pitches for caravans and tents, with amenities such as toilet and shower facilities, fresh water and electric hook up, this small family friendly site is the perfect for all of your camping needs. 

They certainly haven't forgotten about you glampers either, with snug glamping pods to tipis and bell tents, get away to the countryside in style! Fire up those barbeques, get cozy around those firepits and give yourself and your family a well deserved break to remember.  

The campsite is open all year round, with peak seasons starting in line with the school summer holidays.

In a quiet corner amongst trees, our three luxury glamping pods offer a relaxing base with stunning views of Blencathra. They are in an excellent position to explore the North Lakes, walk or bike from the door or just soak up the scenery and relax.

The highlight at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum is obviously the underground element, but then unlike the iceberg there is still plenty to log in to with above the surface right here!The trip on to the reconstructed lead and coper mine feels very adventurous while in fact being entirely safe: kids get to don a hard cap with light on through the duration of the research as well as for just a little extra cost they could try their hand at mineral panning, too.Their slim measure railway provides rides above ground on their choice of engines if the children are not too thinking about descending. Similarly exciting nevertheless is the trip in a reconditioned mine train, which dips in to the quarry that is inner unusual views associated with quarry face! The Quarry and Mining Rooms each offer a range of artefacts and memorabilia regarding their themes, with strong academic value throughout around this area you can also find the impressive classic machinery to consider, including practical excavators - in fact it is even home to your Vintage Excavator Trust. Lots to see and do and undoubtedly plenty to master!

Keswick Climbing Wall Great for beginners for all reasons: it is an agreeable and environment that is supportive highly qualified yet accessible classes, which also shows parents to belay for them to be actively associated with the kids' experience, offering that extra bit of reassurance to stressed climbers. You can find over 40 rope that is top reaching up to 8m, plus big bouldering area and large 'training woody', so there's an abundance of range to advance in every kinds of instructions and lots of space to accomplish it in! You will find lots of other pursuits too, available (in the primary) for families as well as grouped, including: Indoor and Outdoor Climbing; Ghyll Scrambling; Archery; High Ropes Courses; Kayaking; Canoeing; Orienteering; Mountain Walking and Team Building Exercises great for scout groups and activities teams! It's worth bearing in mind that the outdoor pursuits aren't necessarily at the HQ location, so make sure to check always location that is final time of booking and plan your journey correctly!

Aira Force

Founded in 1936, the Lake District Ski Club operates a 360-metre button tow on Raise, next to Helvellyn in the Lake District National Park. An hour's walk from the mines at Glenridding, Raise is positioned for the best snow in the Lakes and the tow gives access to a substantial part of the mountain. There are up to nine runs available, depending on prevailing conditions, the longest of which is almost a mile. Raise's ungroomed slopes provide for a unique experience, with a total of sixty days of skiing enjoyed during particularly good seasons. While it is an austere environment, we have a very cosy heated members' hut!

The Lake District Ski Club is situated near the top of one of England's highest peaks. You should be well-equipped for a mountain environment and fit enough to make the steep climb up carrying your gear.

Ullswater Steamers provide opportunity that is ideal explore the location. Named the 'Dark Lake' in Arthurian legend, it's thought monsters used to reside under the dark waters of Ullswater! Set sail aided by the household on a voyage of development through the valley that holds the secrets of several amazing achievements.This valley holds a number of wildlife concealed between the woodlands which can be ancient fells. You also see England's 3rd hill that is highest, Helvellyn, looming on the southern shore! You might get the opportunity to spot some of the rarer types which can be found here, such as red deer, red squirrels and goosanders.You are able to keep up to date with details about activities for the little adventurers by becoming a member of the Kids' Club newsletter if you are lucky. It's also worth checking online before your see, as there are a number of free tasks you can download to keep the youngsters amused he's often on an outing within the school vacations when you are there.Learn about Sammy the squirrel and their friends, the Tail Trail Gang, find activities to complete, and read about events and tournaments that are held through the year.You may get the chance to meet Sammy. Why not join them for some of the function days, where you can become a pirate, meet a monster through the deep at Halloween or shake fingers with Sammy the Red Nosed Squirrel at Christmas time!
