About This Activity

Salcey Forest is a magnificent woodland that has many miles of ancient wood banks, building remains and ancient trees. The 'druids', or veteran oaks, are rare and amazing wildlife habitats, and some of the old oaks are over 600 years old. See what you can spot on your visit to the medieval royal hunting forest. There are numerous methods to explore, including a family cycle trail, 3 walking trails, 3 waymarked running routes and a 5 mile long horse trail. The newest kids' adventure trail is a Gruffalo Spotters 2.0 Trail - download the free app before your visit and purchase the accompanying pack from the Information Point or Café. There are play facilities throughout Salcey Forest with a large play area found in the Visitor Centre and play huts and den building areas found in the deeper woodland. Be sure to stop at Grounds Café for an ice cream, hot drink or a bite to eat before or after your adventure. Salcey Forest hosts alternative activities which can be family-friendly also. Perhaps you're into horse riding? Or you can even complete the Gruffalo Orienteering Course (Maps available form the Information Point or Café)! And when you merely want to relax in the outside, bring a food basket and unwind at one of the many forest picnic areas.
