Luxury Log 1 bedroom cabin

This very pretty riverside campsite is in the grounds of **The Old Vicarage** - a stunning 17th Century house in the village of **Elkesley** and close to the historic **Sherwood Forest**.  It is very conveniently located just off the A1, but the setting is rural and tranquil, with the elegant grounds of the grand house surrounding the site, and a shallow river running through it.  The Old Vicarage campsite is open all year round and has space for lots of tent pitches running right down to the banks of the River Poulter and it’s a pretty dreamy location (so dreamy in fact, that you can hire it out as a wedding venue).
The site is about having good old fashioned adventures and there is plenty of space around for just that, with a rope swing and stepping stones over the shallow river, the banks of which are lined with mature trees.  Go swimming, mess about by the river, or just relax in the attractive grounds, there is lots to do and explore here, and aside from being a very beautiful campsite, it is a fun place too.  Kids will love it.  Well behaved dogs are also welcome.

It is **grass pitches** only here with both electric and non electric options available, but if you haven’t got your own tent then they do have one very comfortable** log cabin** on site which can sleep up to six people and has its own bathroom.  The campsite amenities include toilets and hot showers, washing up area, disabled facilities and, rather excitingly, a **Cave Bar**, which is - quite literally - a bar carved into 500 year old sandstone rock; not a bad place to enjoy a drink (open usually at busy times of the year) and this also includes an area selling snacks and drinks and also where you can also buy nets and small rods for the river if you fancy having a spot of fishing.  Bring your own rubber ring and you can bob down the river, net in hand…..

As tempting as it is to lurk around the campsite grounds and swim in the river all day, the area surrounding The Old Vicarage is delightful.  There are **nature reserves** and animal parks to walk around and the stunning **Sherwood Forest** is just fifteen minutes away; this is where the adventures can really begin.  A good idea is to visit the Sherwood Forest Visitor centre first, so that you can get maps of the various trails and walks - some hikes are more strenuous than others!  You can also find out about **Robin Hood**, Sherwood Forest’s most famous resident  - and the facts, legends and folklore that surround him.  The kids can go on a wild outdoor adventure at the Sherwood Pines forest park and discover “Robin Hood’s Hideout”, a brilliant play area with treehouses and climbing frames.  The hideout is one of the two main adventure play areas in the forest park and they are connected by a fun walking trail.  There are also great opportunities for wildlife spotting too as you wander through the 450 acres of forest paths.

But Sherwood Forest is not the only attraction around here, there are masses of family friendly and fun days out.  There is Sundown Adventure Park, Ferry Farm Country Park, Idle Valley Nature Reserve, Hodsock Priory and the Bassetlaw museum to name a few.  The larger cities of Nottingham, Lincoln and Sheffield are also close by.

Back at The Old Vicarage, you can hire fire pits, BBQ’s and firewood if you need them and settle down for an evening around the campfire. A beautiful spot near Robbin Hood country.

Our log cabin is set in a quiet 10 acre campsite with its own private garden in the sleepy village of Haxey. It is newly renovated with a modern interior. The central log burning stove gives a cosy feel to the open plan living and cooking spaces.

The cabin sleeps 6 so is perfect for families. It has a secure private garden to keep children and pets safe.

Camping locations don’t come much more stately than this; in the grounds of the grand and very beautiful **Kelham Hall** in **Nottinghamshire**, this campsite is one with rather incredible surroundings. Kelham Hall - a Victorian house in 42 acres of gorgeous **landscaped gardens** - is open to the public and has a children's adventure playground, tennis courts, woodland trails and a cafe.  The campsite itself is nestled into one corner of the gardens, and has over 70 nice sized pitches set out spaciously on the large, well maintained grassy lawn.  The facilities are good, with a shower and toilet block, a washing up area, electric hook ups, a chemical disposal point and drinking water.  All are welcome here: tents, motorhomes, caravans and campervans and you can bring your dog along too.

If you want to explore the immediate area, there is so much to do in and around Kelham Hall and the surrounding Parkland.  Tours of the Hall itself are available and you can uncover the secrets of the past inhabitants of this extraordinary house and find out its significance in World War II.  The parkland and gardens are absolutely lovely too.  The **Woodland and Riverside Walk** in the Country Park is a lovely expedition and one for all the family, around 45 minutes long and takes in lots of sights including St Wilfrid’s Church, the monks graveyard and the Riverside Meadow and Garden.   More serious hikers can try out the **Kelham Hills Walk**; a three hour countryside trail showcasing some of Nottingham's most lovely countryside; rolling hills, woodland, farmland and along the River Trent.  If you fancy something a little bit different then how about venturing into the **Kelham Hall Escape Rooms** for an adrenaline pumping immersive experience to crack the clues and beat the clock.

Further afield there are some great family attractions and places to explore in Nottinghamshire. The legendary home of Robin Hood - **Sherwood Forest** - is a 20 minute drive away from Kelham Hall and a magical destination for everyone who wants to enjoy this ancient woodland (including the 1000 year old Major Oak) and experience a nature reserve which is home to hundreds of species of birds, insects, mammals and plants.  There are brilliant walking and cycling trails here and the excellent Visitor Centre will offer guidance and activity ideas for those looking to enjoy and record the things they spot in the forest. **Sherwood Pines** and **Robin Hood’s hideout** are excellent **adventure playgrounds** in the forest for children of all ages.

With the number of things to see and do at Kelham Hall Campsite it makes an absolutely superb location for a long holiday or short break.  There is even a pub right next door - the excellent **Fox Inn** - if you want a night off the cooking and don’t want to have to drive anywhere for your supper.  With both **Lincoln** and **Nottingham** close by, this centrally placed location is a ready made camping holiday with some fantastic activities, lots of wildlife, good countryside walks and so much more...all on your doorstep.  Just pitch up and relax.

There are four designated walks of varying lengths plus a rubbing that is bronze and sculpture discoveries to be produced.
