The campsite at Ayre's Rock is small, quiet, and peaceful. The pitches overlook a beach view, where you may be fortunate enough to see otters sporting, or the seals may pop up to get a good look at you and your camping arrangements.

Field Camping

We opened the first dedicated Motorhome Aire in Orkney during 2021 & this year we are adding a pop-up campsite for the summer too. We have hard standing for five motorhomes along with black and grey waste emptying facilities, a fresh water filling point and five electric hook-ups. We also have a four acre field if you prefer being out amongst the wild flowers!

Information:
We allow motorhomes of all sizes, although due to the size of our island roads, any vans over 8m will struggle to access the beaches, beauty spots and other island facilities.

New for summer 2022, why not be the first to try our new pop-up campsite. You can set-up camp in our four acre wild flower meadow, half the meadow will be mown and the other half is left to the wild flowers and grasses. It’s just £15 per night for a tent and we have a brand new luxurious family size shower room for you to use too.

Grass Tent Pitch

Our stunning location has panoramic views out to sea on three sides, looking out to Eday, Rousay, Egilsay, Westray, Papa Westray, North Ronaldsay & Mainland Orkney and we are just a 500m walk to the beach at Roos Wick bay. We also have our wood-fired pizza take-away on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

Please DO NOT come loaded with food and drink! We have two extremely well stocked island shops who rely on our regular business to survive. Please support them by purchasing food, drink, souvenirs and fuel (diesel and petrol). Calor gas bottles can be exchanged at the garage in Burness, but there isn’t any LPG filling facilities in Orkney – yet!

4G internet coverage is excellent in Sanday through the EE network, all other networks work here too, but not as well as EE. There is free guest wi-fi available on the hardstanding pitches and around the buildings & cafe.

The hostel is a converted barn & byre with thick stone walls set in a grassed courtyard alongside the converted mill and stables.

Westray Heritage Centre has an display that is annual permanent exhibition, interactive shows and model seabirds and sounds.It provides a welcome shelter through the climate for visitors exploring Westray and in 2014 the visiting exhibition will concentrate on World War I on Westray.
