The Lake District National Park in Cumbria is England's largest National Park, and in 2017 it also became a World Heritage Site, joining The Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon as a place of international acclaim. Emerald green rolling hills, thick woodland, vast brooding lakes and snow-topped peaks, the Lake District is home to England's highest mountain - Scarfel Pike - and its deepest lake, Wastwater. For outward bounders and lovers of the great outdoors, the Lake District National Park is the place to be. The activities on offer are endless; hiking, climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, water sports of every description and, for adrenaline junkies, abseiling, caving and gorge scrambling. There are bustling market towns such as Keswick, Ambleside, Bowness and Kendall as well as spaces of such wild wilderness, you'll feel like the only one roaming the open fells for miles around.
