

With no club and no pool, people who come to Fen Farm do so for the tranquil atmosphere and children often surprise themselves by finding an occupation that does not involve anything being switched on or booted up!

There are always the play areas with swings, seesaws, climbing frames etc. In addition to this, children enjoy ‘crabbing’ in the creeks, playing on the beach or in the sea. We also have an open field for ball games, flying kites or just walking the dog.

Dogs are welcome and there are dog walks all around the park. There are also many footpath walks nearby as well as a dog friendly beach. Ideal for people looking for a quiet family retreat, situated by the sea and close to a country park in a small village on Mersea Island. The Farm has been owned by the Lord family since 1918 and the first tents were pitched in 1923, so the park has grown rather than been developed.


Our aim is to run a peaceful, tranquil park therefore we do not accept bookings of 3 or more pitches. A group is defined by the number of units not the number of people in each unit. We politely ask that people do not make separate bookings and then form a group on arrival or congregate together on site during their stay.

Unfortunately, due to previous experience, we cannot accept bookings of groups of people under 21.

Fen Farm Caravan Site

This dwelling is situated out in the meadow in a prime spot to soak up the afternoon and evening sun. A short walk from the car park as well as the Orchard Wash House.

Ideal for families, this large Mongolian yurt has a double bedstead with 4 single mattresses either side. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, furnishings, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This also includes any noise disturbance so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level otherwise you may also incur additional charges. Any items left behind must be claimed within two weeks of departure. If relevant, postage and packing charges for the return of goods will apply. You are not permitted to use branches, debris, or other items you may see around the farmstead. All timber and similar flammable materials are the property of the owners. Please ensure you use your fire pit safely.

BBQ - Fire pits and grills are provided with each tent. If any disposable BBQs are used, they must be kept off the grass and disposed of as directed by our staff.

Noise - We are a Low Noise Policy Site. Please consider other guests and keep noise to a minimum, especially after 21.00.

Parking - There is free parking next to the site. Your tariffs cover you for one car per dwelling. Additional cars incur a charge and must be parked in the car park. Please let us know if you wish to bring additional vehicles. No vehicles to be driven onto the site.

The Shepherd’s Hut was bought by our great grandfather about sixty years ago and has been refurbished into a charming, small but cosy dwelling for 1-2 people.

It has the least space of all our accommodation but is certainly the snuggest with its own little wood burner. It sits in the far right corner of the meadow under an oak tree. The Orchard Wash House and Orchard Kitchen can be seen across the meadow a short walk away.

The hut comes with a double bedstead, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the hut. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months.

This beautiful handcrafted Mongolian yurt is positioned at the far end of the site. If you are keen to enjoy your own company and have a little more privacy, whilst listening to the brook meander past, then this is the best choice. On the downside – it is the furthest from the facilities!

Mufassa

Once upon a time, this structure was used to store grain on the farm following the annual harvest in August.

The Grain Silo is our most romantic getaway, tucked away in the woods at the back of the site.

Baloo 

This luxury bell tent is tucked between the Grain Silo and Colonel Hathi. It is approximately 100m from the main facilities, but hidden amongst the trees for a true woodland camping experience.

This luxury bell tent comes with a double bedstead with up to three mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bed side tables, lighting, mirror and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs and pillows create a snug feel to the tent.Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Colonel Hathi

This 16ft traditionally crafted yurt has been beautifully handmade by a lovely chap from Somerset who has been building these structures for years. The olive colour of the canvas makes it blend in beautifully to its surroundings in the meadow. The yurt is positioned in the very centre of the site, a short distance from the facilities.

This yurt comes with a double bedstead and up to 3 mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months. The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

It is a fantastic spot to bring the children for a weekend in the countryside or to relax with a few friends around a campfire. We are just 50 minutes outside of London, by train, yet nestled peacefully in a tranquil rural setting.

We have an exciting range of quirky accommodation available to our guests, ranging from beautiful bell tents to handcrafted Mongolian Yurts.

Our larger dwellings are perfect for families and friends, whilst the refurbished Grain Silo and Shepherds Hut both make for particularly romantic abodes for couples. *Kingfishers Nest is our second cosy cabin and is situated on the edge of a hidden lake with commanding views across the water. Surrounded by nature, this beautifully designed snug has a list of luxuries including a sauna, hot tub and a bath tub in the bedroom all with special views of the water.*

With a hot tub and sauna, overlooking the lake, there is really no reason to leave the property during your stay. However, if you fancy some exercise there are some beautiful walks in the neighbouring ancient woodland, a 10 minute walk from the cabin.

*Camp Chalkney comprises of 10 luxurious “Nomadic” bell tents situated in a secluded meadow perched on the edge of a beautiful lake.*

Each tent comes furnished with a double bed, full bedding and bath towels, blankets, cushions, matting and colourful rugs, a basic power supply for lighting and phone charging and low lying bedside tables. Additional single mattresses are added for 3-5 guests.

**Damages or Breakages** - **Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This also includes any noise disturbance** so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level otherwise you may also incur additional charges. **Campfires** - Campfires are only permitted in designated areas. There is one communal fire pit and each dwelling has its own small fire pit. Please do not make fires anywhere else on the site. **Any fires found outside of the designated areas will incur a charge.** Only timber supplied by us can be used. You are **not permitted** to use branches, debris, or other items you may see around the farmstead. All timber and similar flammable materials are the property of the owners. Please ensure you use your fire pit safely.

**BBQ** - Fire pits and grills are provided with each tent.  If any disposable BBQs are used, they must be kept off the grass and disposed of as directed by our staff.

**Noise** - We are a Low Noise Policy Site. Please consider other guests and keep noise to a minimum, especially after 21.00.

**Parking** - There is free parking next to the site. Your tariffs cover you for one car per dwelling. Additional cars incur a charge and must be parked in the car park. Please let us know if you wish to bring additional vehicles. No vehicles to be driven onto the site.

**Waste & Rubbish** - Wipes, sanitary waste, nappies, cloths etc must not be flushed down the toilets. Bins are provided – please make sure you use them. These items must be wrapped and put in the bin provided. Please empty any liquid waste into designated drain. Refuse area situated by the kitchen. Please do not drop litter. Please respect the site and treat our facilities with care.

**Recycling** - Please make use of the recycling facilities provided. We have recycling bins for glass & general waste. Please note that our general waste is collected by CSH Environmental who have a state-of-the-art recycling centre where all your general waste is sorted and recycled. Please ensure your children are accompanied at all times and be aware of the dangers. We are not responsible for the safety of your children.
 
**Emergency Numbers** - A list of emergency numbers is available in the kitchen.

**British Weather** - Camping in Britain can mean unpredictable weather. Whilst we supply certain facilities and equipment, it is still camping and you are responsible for your own well being and comfort regarding appropriate clothing and footwear etc. Be aware the tents are cotton canvas and in prolonged and heavy rain the tents may leak. Please keep windows and doors to the tents closed during rainfall to avoid water getting in. Browning Bros. cannot be held responsible for poor weather conditions during your stay.

The owners of the site are absolved of all liability for accidents, loss or damage to guests’ personal property. We reserve the right to ask guests not observing the conditions to leave the site without refunds and with immediate effect.
