Gwel-an-Nans Farm

The lovely, family run Gwel-an-Nans campsite is situated in a beautifully rural spot, just southwest of Bodmin and in a great location for exploring some of Cornwall’s most beautiful countryside and its world class beaches and attractions. The site is open all year round and they provide a mix of hardstanding and grassy pitches over two and a half acres of spacious, flat ground, welcoming tents, campervans, caravans or motorhomes with the choice of electric hook-up if you wish. The campsite is very family friendly and dog friendly, and there is a separate enclosed field for ball games and general gadding about, several nearby dog walks and it even has its very own private woodland nature trail to do some wildlife spotting. There are two friendly donkeys - Basil and Jimmy - in the nearby paddock, who are always available for a natter, and other farm animals graze in the surrounding fields. It’s a tranquil place.

Facilities here are very well maintained and are cleaned regularly; they include toilets and heated showers (including a disabled toilet), a laundry room, use of a fridge freezer and microwave, chemical disposal and a fresh spring water supply. You can also hire a BBQ (with charcoal) or a fire pit to enjoy a campfire in the evening; they even include kindling, logs, marshmallows and skewers so you don’t have to remember anything! Gwel-an-Nans is a very pretty site, with mature trees and shrubs, colourful flowers and magnificent far reaching views across the farm fields. Guests here book year after year, not least because of the very helpful and friendly owners who go out of their way to make sure your stay is as brilliant as it possibly can be!

Aside from the lovely site, the location is an absolute belter. Just a short walk away is Bodmin Moor - one of Cornwall’s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - a stunning, heather-covered moorland, dotted with boulders and granite rocks, and wild moorland ponies grazing over the 200 square kilometres. There is so much to explore here. It was a heavily populated area in the Bronze Age, and numerous archeological remains have been discovered here including Neolithic huts on Leskernick Hill, Trethevy Quoit, and Rillaton Barrow, the famous Hurlers Stone Circles. Less than 5 minutes walk from the campsite are the beautiful cycle trails of Cardinham Woods, a woodland adventure with secret glades, streams and paths to follow. Or, if you are visiting Cornwall for the beaches then this is also a great spot; the northern coastline of Cornwall is well known for its coastal paths, dramatic cliffs, surfing beaches (Watergate Bay or Polzeath) as well as many family friendly beaches (Polkerris, Looe, Carlyon Bay and Par) and these can all be found within 30 minutes by car. Gwel-an-Nans is also ideally situated to many of Cornwall’s world class attractions such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and Restormel Castle.
