

With no club and no pool, people who come to Fen Farm do so for the tranquil atmosphere and children often surprise themselves by finding an occupation that does not involve anything being switched on or booted up!

There are always the play areas with swings, seesaws, climbing frames etc. In addition to this, children enjoy ‘crabbing’ in the creeks, playing on the beach or in the sea. We also have an open field for ball games, flying kites or just walking the dog.

Dogs are welcome and there are dog walks all around the park. There are also many footpath walks nearby as well as a dog friendly beach. Ideal for people looking for a quiet family retreat, situated by the sea and close to a country park in a small village on Mersea Island. The Farm has been owned by the Lord family since 1918 and the first tents were pitched in 1923, so the park has grown rather than been developed.


Our aim is to run a peaceful, tranquil park therefore we do not accept bookings of 3 or more pitches. A group is defined by the number of units not the number of people in each unit. We politely ask that people do not make separate bookings and then form a group on arrival or congregate together on site during their stay.

Unfortunately, due to previous experience, we cannot accept bookings of groups of people under 21.

Fen Farm Caravan Site

This dwelling is situated out in the meadow in a prime spot to soak up the afternoon and evening sun. A short walk from the car park as well as the Orchard Wash House.

Ideal for families, this large Mongolian yurt has a double bedstead with 4 single mattresses either side. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, furnishings, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This also includes any noise disturbance so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level otherwise you may also incur additional charges. Any items left behind must be claimed within two weeks of departure. If relevant, postage and packing charges for the return of goods will apply. You are not permitted to use branches, debris, or other items you may see around the farmstead. All timber and similar flammable materials are the property of the owners. Please ensure you use your fire pit safely.

BBQ - Fire pits and grills are provided with each tent. If any disposable BBQs are used, they must be kept off the grass and disposed of as directed by our staff.

Noise - We are a Low Noise Policy Site. Please consider other guests and keep noise to a minimum, especially after 21.00.

Parking - There is free parking next to the site. Your tariffs cover you for one car per dwelling. Additional cars incur a charge and must be parked in the car park. Please let us know if you wish to bring additional vehicles. No vehicles to be driven onto the site.

Waste & Rubbish - Wipes, sanitary waste, nappies, cloths etc must not be flushed down the toilets. Bins are provided – please make sure you use them. The Shepherd’s Hut was bought by our great grandfather about sixty years ago and has been refurbished into a charming, small but cosy dwelling for 1-2 people.

It has the least space of all our accommodation but is certainly the snuggest with its own little wood burner. It sits in the far right corner of the meadow under an oak tree. The Orchard Wash House and Orchard Kitchen can be seen across the meadow a short walk away.

The hut comes with a double bedstead, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the hut. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This beautiful handcrafted Mongolian yurt is positioned at the far end of the site. If you are keen to enjoy your own company and have a little more privacy, whilst listening to the brook meander past, then this is the best choice. On the downside – it is the furthest from the facilities!

Mufassa

Once upon a time, this structure was used to store grain on the farm following the annual harvest in August.

The Grain Silo is our most romantic getaway, tucked away in the woods at the back of the site.

Baloo 

This luxury bell tent is tucked between the Grain Silo and Colonel Hathi. It is approximately 100m from the main facilities, but hidden amongst the trees for a true woodland camping experience.

This luxury bell tent comes with a double bedstead with up to three mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bed side tables, lighting, mirror and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs and pillows create a snug feel to the tent.Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. Colonel Hathi

This 16ft traditionally crafted yurt has been beautifully handmade by a lovely chap from Somerset who has been building these structures for years. The olive colour of the canvas makes it blend in beautifully to its surroundings in the meadow. The yurt is positioned in the very centre of the site, a short distance from the facilities.

This yurt comes with a double bedstead and up to 3 mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months. The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

Hastys Adventure Farm

Push Kiting Offering lessons in Kitesurfing, Kite Buggying, Land Kiteboarding and Power Kiteboarding. Fundamentally however'd like to be wind driven, they will show you just how to get it done! Teachers are fully British Kitesurfing Association registered and authorized, gear is all top of the line Flexifoil, and lessons are presented in half time taster, or 1 to 3 days of course, with additional content that is customisable length available. Stand up paddle boarding is also available by arrangement. Allegedly neither elegance is needed by you nor experience to get going, also it won't break your budget either, with taster sessions for every single associated with disciplines going for under £50. Self-confidence with water is clearly the basis that is best for the weather involving it, but buoyancy vests and full support and training is given so many active types are ready to go right away. There don't seem to be age that is general height restrictions nevertheless the equipment presumably has restrictions so our advice could be that if you're considering taking under 8s it's probably better to give them a call and check your choices. Push Kiting make kite boarding tuition easy, safe and fun, providing lessons that are of the highest quality, made possible by utilizing only the top professional instructors and the highest quality equipment.

Following the government advice as of 10th May 2020 we are back teaching lesson with some restrictions.

We are running 1:1 and 2:1 ( if the participates are from the same family), but NOT large groups.

Weve also put in place all safety measures recommended by the Government and NHS.

We will not be running any large group lessons until further notice as this will bring into contact many students from different areas and could spread the virus. This means we will not be able to run any stag dos, Hen dos, office group building days out or school groups etc. Until advice is updated we will be postponing all group bookings and not taking new group bookings up to June, in the first incidence. We are looking at options for reserving dates for group bookings from June onwards however these will only go ahead if current advise dictates they can, please be aware of this.

We are sorry to cancel any current group lessons, this is financially terrible for us but our students and instructors safety is paramount, we hope you understand.

We will only be using instructors who are showing no symptoms and have not been in contact with anyone with Coronavirus and thus should be self-isolating. We will be looking to keep a supply of hand sanitiser on the boat and with the instructor for land lessons as supplies allow. We would also ask that if you have any symptoms or should be self-isolating you get in contact and we will reschedule your lesson for when you are feeling better.

If all our instructors are taking precautionary self-isolating measures we would need to reschedule your lesson, we apologise for this but it is for the community and to slow the spread to the most vulnerable in society.
