Set in 32 acres of Sussex countryside, Hastingford Fishery is a beautiful and rural retreat; the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and wonderful views across the Sussex Downs. It is an absolutely super spot for fishing - the spring fed lakes are well stocked with carp, perch, tench, roach, golden and blue orfe, rudd and gudgeon - but it is also a wonderful place for a break away from it all, to come and switch off, relax and unwind. It is a very well run site for adults only, and you are guaranteed a warm welcome here from Geraldine and Mark who are your hosts at Hastingford Fishery and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as special and comfortable as possible.
The grounds of Hastingford Fishery are gorgeous and you feel miles from anywhere as you wander around. There are two lakes for fishing here and a third for wild swimmers who are adventurous enough to go in for a dip (NB at your own risk). The surrounding farm fields are home to cows and sheep grazing, and wildlife lovers will have plenty to see too; walk through the ancient woodland and spot herons, buzzards, hawks, kingfishers and many other varieties of birds.
Accommodation is glamping in one of four lovely fisherman's huts; they are wood panelled, cosy, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. The secluded lakeside location makes for a very private and tranquil stay. Each hut has all the mod cons that you need for a relaxing break including a bed for two, table and chairs, a wood burner (with kindling and logs) hob, microwave, TV, fridge/freezer and a lovely outside decking area with views right across the lake a BBQ and firepit. It is a short walk to your own private and heated hut containing a shower and toilet, plus there is a small portaloo right by the hut, so there is no need for dark walks in the middle of the night! A washing up area and washing machine are in a separate hut for use if you need it. As a lovely extra touch, there is a welcome pack on arrival including rolls, croissants, milk, tea and other goodies.
Although Hastingford Fishery is in a rural location, it is a great base for exploring the East Sussex area and some of Sussex’s larger towns are only a short drive away such as Royal Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and Lewes. The coastal cities of Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings and all the seaside attractions they offer are also within easy reach by car. The countryside of High Weald - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - is a wonderful place to stay; it is a stunning landscape of rolling hills, woodland, farm fields and ancient trails and there are lots of different ways to explore the area; walking or cycling or visiting one of the many nature reserves. There are medieval castles - such a Bodium - historic houses and gardens, heritage railways to hop aboard and many beautiful lakes and reservoirs to visit. At the end of a day exploring Sussex, your fishermans hut will be a welcome retreat. Have a barbeque and relax on the deck overlooking the lake or visit one of the excellent local pubs for a delicious home cooked meal.
