Next door, the coaching inn has been welcoming thirsty and hungry travellers for four centuries, with nearby real ales, bar snacks and restaurant meals, regular Chinese and Indian carvery nights and a beer garden with a kids’ play area.

For true fishing aficionados, there are further carp to be caught a five-minute drive away at Tucker’s Holt, and at Kingsbury Waterpark (half an hour). The latter makes a decent destination for non-anglers as well, with walks, cycle trails and birdwatching, plus waterskiing and jetskiing on the lakes.
