Tomb of this Eagles is another name for the Isbister Chambered Cairn which is a Stone Age tomb situated at the cliff top. Many human bones as well as bird bones, particularly of White Tailed Eagles -hence the name! The passageway into the Tomb is 70 cm wide and 85 cm high. The quickest option is to crawl along the 3 metre entrance but the most entertaining and memorable way is the use of a trolley! Once inside, the roof is 3 metres high with skylights supplying ample light. The tomb is approximately 1 mile along a well-marked path from the Visitors Centre. En route there is a Bronze Age building and burnt mound to visit. The return route along the cliff top offers beautiful scenery and wildflower trail. At the Visitor centre you will discover a unique hands-on experience where you can see and handle some of the original artefacts found at the sites and enjoy talks given by the guides. Plus, there is a shop offering many Orcadian crafts, hot/cold drinks, confectionery and Orkney ice-cream.
