

With no club and no pool, people who come to Fen Farm do so for the tranquil atmosphere and children often surprise themselves by finding an occupation that does not involve anything being switched on or booted up!

There are always the play areas with swings, seesaws, climbing frames etc. In addition to this, children enjoy ‘crabbing’ in the creeks, playing on the beach or in the sea. We also have an open field for ball games, flying kites or just walking the dog.

Dogs are welcome and there are dog walks all around the park. There are also many footpath walks nearby as well as a dog friendly beach. Ideal for people looking for a quiet family retreat, situated by the sea and close to a country park in a small village on Mersea Island. The Farm has been owned by the Lord family since 1918 and the first tents were pitched in 1923, so the park has grown rather than been developed.


Our aim is to run a peaceful, tranquil park therefore we do not accept bookings of 3 or more pitches. A group is defined by the number of units not the number of people in each unit. We politely ask that people do not make separate bookings and then form a group on arrival or congregate together on site during their stay.

Unfortunately, due to previous experience, we cannot accept bookings of groups of people under 21.

This dwelling is situated out in the meadow in a prime spot to soak up the afternoon and evening sun. A short walk from the car park as well as the Orchard Wash House.

Ideal for families, this large Mongolian yurt has a double bedstead with 4 single mattresses either side. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, furnishings, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This also includes any noise disturbance so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level otherwise you may also incur additional charges. BBQ - Fire pits and grills are provided with each tent. If any disposable BBQs are used, they must be kept off the grass and disposed of as directed by our staff.

Noise - We are a Low Noise Policy Site. Please consider other guests and keep noise to a minimum, especially after 21.00.

The Shepherd’s Hut was bought by our great grandfather about sixty years ago and has been refurbished into a charming, small but cosy dwelling for 1-2 people.

It has the least space of all our accommodation but is certainly the snuggest with its own little wood burner. It sits in the far right corner of the meadow under an oak tree. The Orchard Wash House and Orchard Kitchen can be seen across the meadow a short walk away.

The hut comes with a double bedstead, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the hut. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months.

This beautiful handcrafted Mongolian yurt is positioned at the far end of the site. If you are keen to enjoy your own company and have a little more privacy, whilst listening to the brook meander past, then this is the best choice. On the downside – it is the furthest from the facilities!

Mufassa

Once upon a time, this structure was used to store grain on the farm following the annual harvest in August.

The Grain Silo is our most romantic getaway, tucked away in the woods at the back of the site.

Baloo 

This luxury bell tent is tucked between the Grain Silo and Colonel Hathi. It is approximately 100m from the main facilities, but hidden amongst the trees for a true woodland camping experience.

This luxury bell tent comes with a double bedstead with up to three mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bed side tables, lighting, mirror and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs and pillows create a snug feel to the tent.Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them.

Please note interior furnishings are more or less the same in each dwelling.

Damages or Breakages - Any damage to site facilities or to our accommodation, including when our tents are left in an unsatisfactory state, will incur additional charges. This also includes any noise disturbance so please ensure noise levels are kept to a sensible level otherwise you may also incur additional charges. Any items left behind must be claimed within two weeks of departure. If relevant, postage and packing charges for the return of goods will apply. This luxury bell tent is nestled amongst the trees at the back of the site in a secluded and peaceful spot. A little further to walk to the facilities but lovely and private!

Colonel Hathi

This 16ft traditionally crafted yurt has been beautifully handmade by a lovely chap from Somerset who has been building these structures for years. The olive colour of the canvas makes it blend in beautifully to its surroundings in the meadow. The yurt is positioned in the very centre of the site, a short distance from the facilities.

This yurt comes with a double bedstead and up to 3 mattresses on the floor. Also included are 2 bedside tables, lighting, mirror, and table at the end of the bed. Carpets, rugs, and pillows create a snug feel to the tent. Bedding and bath towels are provided for as well as extra blankets should you need them. The little log burner keeps this nice and snug in the Spring and Autumn months. The skylight allows you to truly fall asleep under the stars, the only draw back is that you may be woken at first light so worth bringing sleeping eye mask.

Water Lily Lodge is approached down a country track and situated on the edge of a hidden lake, offering beautiful water front views. Enjoy the comfort and luxury this cabin has to offer surrounded by wildlife and nature.

*Camp Chalkney comprises of 10 luxurious “Nomadic” bell tents situated in a secluded meadow perched on the edge of a beautiful lake.*

Out regarding the reserve at Fingringhoe Wick Nature book you will find a area that is picnic nature trails and bird hides (some quick access) and view-points with stunning estuary views. There are numerous benches found round the book. There is certainly a full journal of activities for both young ones and grownups over summer and winter such as a toddler that is regular nature book is a wildlife haven and site visitors can enjoy up to 200 species of birds. Numerous dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies and up to 350 species of flowering plants have been recorded. Within the springtime you can see orchids, clovers, medicks and treefoils. The Sea Lavender in the saltmarsh appears dazzling so be sure to simply take a camera along into the summer!
