From forest walks and wildlife encounters to winter sports, fishing and waterskiing, get cracking right on site, as this small Leicestershire park for touring vehicles has its own fishing pond, bookable in advance. Next door, the coaching inn has been welcoming thirsty and hungry travellers for four centuries, with nearby real ales, bar snacks and restaurant meals, regular Chinese and Indian carvery nights and a beer garden with a kids’ play area.

For true fishing aficionados, there are further carp to be caught a five-minute drive away at Tucker’s Holt, and at Kingsbury Waterpark (half an hour).
