Scallow Campsite is specifically for Camping and Caravanning Club members only
If you are planning on travelling to or through East Sussex and are looking for a pretty and secluded place to stay, then look no further than Scallow campsite, located on a farm in the heart of beautiful Sussex. Sandwiched between the South Downs National Park on one side and High Weald - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - on the other, the glorious green countryside surrounding Scallow Campsite certainly takes some beating.
The campsite is small, well laid out and level, hosting only a few privileged pitches. There are 5 generously sized, hardstanding pitches with electric hook ups, and enough space for three further large tents (possibly more if the tents are smaller, 2-man affairs), all with superb views across the adjacent farmland and surrounding copse, which bursts into life with wildflowers and a sea of dazzling bluebells in the spring. The owners are opening a new shower and toilet block in April 2021 but other than this, facilities are paired back here, adding to the rural feel and simplicity of the campsite and its surrounds.
Wander a mile down the road and you will come across the village of East Hoathly which has a convenient village shop and a great pub - The Kings Head - serving delicious home cooked meals if you want a night off the cooking. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice here, with the local splendours of the South Downs National Park right on the doorstep, providing some fantastic trails across the South Downs Way. Or explore High Weald's unique landscape with a walk or nature ramble; whether you are a wildlife lover, serious hiker or family with small children, there is something for everyone here.
One of the attractions of Scallow campsite is undoubtedly its location, with the medieval town of Lewes, the seaside towns of Eastbourne and Brighton and the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells all nearby. For a trip to the coast, the busy towns of Eastbourne and Brighton are only 30 minutes away and have sunny beaches, large and lively piers and plenty of attractions to keep everyone entertained. The Birling Gap, Seven Sisters Country Park and the vast chalky cliffs of Beachy Head - rising 531 feet above sea level - are also local beauty spots well worth a visit.
Scallow campsite is a lovely quiet spot, hidden away down the winding country lanes of East Sussex. Spend your evening here enjoying the quiet surrounds and tranquility of the site, and maybe even spotting the resident Albino Barn Owl if you’re lucky!
