Northampton Museum and Art Gallery

The museum was scheduled to open on 20 June, but as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the opening happens to be postponed until late 2020 or early 2021. Building works are now into the stages which are final as soon as complete and deep cleaned, curators will start event installation.

The museum has doubled in size with the addition of a nine-metre-high atrium that is glazed, which links the original museum to your Old Gaol Block, now house to a new Temporary Exhibitions’ Gallery, Shoe Gallery and schools’ activity area.

The atrium includes a café and south-facing terrace that is outdoor. The brand new Shoe Gallery housed in the reduced flooring, showcases Northampton’s shoe that is internationally crucial together with town’s rich shoemaking history and traditions.
