Commanche Camping

The Higler hut is designed for couples only, who want to get away for a few days of comfortable relaxation, reading and sleeping, for those who enjoy simple pleasures associated with the countryside and being outdoors.

The hut is off grid and set well away from the rest of the camping areas, under the partial shade of an old oak tree. It is simply laid out with a French Double bed, Chilly Billy wood burner, comfy seats and reading lights.

There is a single burner gas cooker for kettle boiling and simple cooking and sink. Outside there is a BBQ, fire pit and grid, picnic bench, shower and eco toilet.

These large private pitches are for couples or families. These are at least 50 meters from the next camping area. Each pitch has a fire pit, picnic table, toilet, mains water and showers are close by.

Priced at £28 per night including 2 people, additional adults are £14 per person, children are £8 per person.

Pear tree and Glade

Two large private and secluded grass areas with loads of space for families who want to be together. Each of these pitches has a minimum of two toilets, camp fire, benches, picnic table and  dish washing station. Mains water and hot shower are close by.

Spinney and Meadow Sweet -  Family Group Pitches

Anderida, ideal for those that don't quite do camping and want to enjoy themselves with the kids tucked up in bed. It is a fully self contained Shepherds hut which sleeps two adults and two children. There is a full cooker, shower and for winter time a wood burner in the hut, The rooms are interconnected and the hot shower inside the hut.  Outside there is a fire pit, picnic table, BBQ, easy chairs and sun shade.
The Higler hut is for adults only and self contained in a field by itself. There is a covered outside hot shower and toilet, picnic table and firepit. There is a gas BBQ and covered outside kitchen area. Inside the beautiful hand crafted Cedar wood hut there is a wood burner, single gas ring, comfortable French bed, chairs table and sink.
Stays are for a minimum of 3 nights with a heavily discounted price for a full week booking. During this Covid time ask you to bring your own pillows and Duvet, and we have removed all food/condiments until the pandemic is under control.

Anderida Shepherds Hut

3 large private grass pitches with fire pits, benches and a picnic table. Each has their own washing up station and each has their own toilet. These are generous size pitches that can take two families.

1 small campervan is allowed on Sunnyside.

The price includes 2 adults and 2 children. Additional adults are priced at £14 per person, children at £8 per person

Tucked away down a farm track are the Cowshed (4 bedroom), with additional bedrooms available (at extra cost) in the Granary (2) & Piggery (1); as well as a shared Play Barn, Cinema & Cedar Hot Tub. The cottages have been thoughtfully converted into warm & comfortable accommodation, whitewashed with organic clay paints, stripped floorboards & large French doors, bringing the outside in. Nearby is the family home & our on-site microbrewery. You are surrounded by 140 acres of wildflower meadows

It’s true: to appreciate Hawthbush Farm, you really don’t need very much. It’s the place and all those who share it with us that make it what it is. The Cowshed has 4 bedrooms (for groups up to 8) then the Granary has 2 bedrooms (2 rooms for an extra 4 guests)

In 2009, our family moved to Hawthbush Farm in rural East Sussex. The farm’s oral history has been passed down from family to family with the only stipulation being a love of the land and a sense of responsibility for the continued guardianship of it in its natural state. Our goal on arrival was to tread lightly on the land. We’d lived on a farm before, but this was different, much more immersive: we slotted into the farm’s harmonious ecosystem, not the other way around.

CAR: Our address is Hawthbush Farm, Gun Hill, East Sussex, TN21 0JY (use 0JX for satnav). We are a mile from the A22 on Gun Hill on the south side of the road, where you will find a farm track with a red sign saying Hawthbush Farm on the roadside, there is a gate and a buzzer.

TRAIN: The nearest station is Berwick (10 mins drive away) which will take you to Lewes. Direct London services can be had from Lewes (20 mins drive) and Uckfield (20 mins drive).

PLANE: Gatwick airport is only 50 minutes drive from the farm.

The Faraway Tent Pitches are set in the forest further from other campers in a very scenic area of the campsite. There are single faraway pitches, two double pitches and the faraway mini-group area suitable for up to 6-8 families. All Faraway Pitches come with their own fire pit. All our pitches fit a 5-metre bell tent – for larger tents or multiple tents please contact the office to ensure we can allocate you a larger pitch.

There is a 150 plus metre walk to the main toilets and showers. However there are two compost toilets, two bucket showers and water points located close to the faraway pitches. The walk from the car park is approximately 300+ metres – large wheelbarrows are provided to assist you.

Due to access we do not allow any caravans or campervans – tents only please. You must supply all of your own camping equipment.

The Faraway Tent Pitch

The Valley View Pitch is located by itself on the crest of a hill, on one side of Bracken Valley. The pitch has a stunning view and is a more open, spacious pitch usually reserved for small groups. Two or more tents can be pitched together, whilst still being surrounded by woodland. The pitch comes with its own fire pit, log benches, a fire-grill and a sturdy wooden picnic table. There is a 100-metre walk to the toilets and shower. The walk to the pitch from the car park is approximately 70-80 metres – wheelbarrows are provided.

Due to access we do not allow any caravans or campervans – tents only please. You must supply all of your own camping equipment.

The Valley View Pitch

Your East Sussex glamping holiday is made easy when you stay in one of our spacious bell tents. Everything is set up for you and your camping kit is supplied.

Our ‘wild glamping’ option means a stay in one of our spacious pre-erected bell tents, with beds and cooking equipment provided. The East Sussex glamping option is perfect for families or couples. Two or three families can hire bell tents in the same area, or we are able to place extra bell tents up in this area to cater for up to five families. There are eight fully-furnished bell tents in total spread over our campsite.

We have more secluded bell tents, which can be requested when booking, although are subject to availability. We also have some bell tents located adjacent to tent pitches and a couple of the bell tents have room for friends to pitch right alongside.

Bell Tent

The Forest Tent Pitches are set within glades of the forest. There are various pitch sizes including single pitches, a small number of double pitches and the two larger mini-group areas suitable for three to five families. All Forest Tent Pitches have their own campfire pit. All our pitches fit a 5-metre bell tent – for larger tents or multiple tents please contact the office to ensure we can allocate you a larger pitch.

The walk from the car park is approximately 50-200 metres to the pitches – large wheelbarrows are provided to assist you. Due to access we do not allow any caravans or campervans – tents only please. You must supply all of your own camping equipment.

Forest Tent Pitch

Beech Estate Campsite is part of Pegs and Pitches Camping, two beautiful woodland campsites in Sussex.. Beech Estate is an off-grid campsite with the option to pitch your own tent or stay in one of the site's pre-erected, fully-equipped bell tents for a "wild glamping" experience. Campfires are welcome at our beautiful woodland campsite and each tent pitch and bell tent comes with its own fire pit area.

The site is located in East Sussex near the historic town of Battle, within easy reach of London, Hastings and the South Coast. It is nestled on the edge of a 600-acre woodland within the 2,000-acre private Beech Estate; a classified Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The woodland offers limitless walks, forest rises perfect for mountain bike riding and areas for kids to make dens and run wild. Guests at the campsite have the exclusive use of the estate’s woodlands, as there is no access for the general public.

Tent pitches are set apart in clearings in our beautiful woodland location and, for campers wanting to feel very secluded, there are “faraway tent pitches”, set on top of a hill overlooking the Bracken Valley. These are very private, although there is a short additional walk to the toilets and shower.

Our lovely Bell Tents are also set in forest clearings and, in addition to designated fire pits and grills, come with their own firewood allocation, beds, a picnic table, camping chairs and cooking utensils for our "wild glamping" experience - ideal for families or those who want a comfortable hassle-free option. As we are off-grid, don't expect hair dryers, phone chargers, power points, butler service, silk sheets or hot tubs. "Wild glamping" is about a real camping experience made easy, with just about all the camping equipment you should need, set-up and waiting for you.

We also provide our unique eco toilets and shower in a custom-made wooden gypsy-style caravan. The campsite is off-grid with no electricity but we have a mains water supply.

We have permanent wardens on site to assist our campers at all times and operate a small-scale quiet, relaxed and laid back campsite. We don’t allow amplified music and have a low noise policy from 10 pm in the evenings. The campsite is ideal for families and groups, to reconnect and renew friendships.

Beech Estate Campsite

Our camping field is 10 acres, surrounded on 3 sides by woodland. Whitefield wood, to the south of the camping field, is available as a private area for all campers to access. Whether to follow our woodland walk trail, have a picnic in our woodland clearing or just enjoy being off the beaten track.

We are based on a 140 acre farm in Hellingly, East Sussex that has been run by the same family for 50 years. The access to our campsite is down a beautiful woodland track, starting the magic of your break as you emerge into the camping field. The campsite is the perfect retreat to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside with the bonus of being only 5 minutes from the market town of Hailsham.
