Directions - Unless you are walking or cycling, please don't attempt to access the site via Combe Lane, which is a no-through road from the village of Exford.

Instead, from Exford, turn off the B3224 onto Park St heading towards Porlock. Follow this road out of the village and near the top of the hill you will drive over a cattle grid (Hillhead Cross). Take the immediate right, signposted Luccombe. The campsite is the next right turning (if you get to Porlock Post you have gone too far).

Our beautiful shepherd hut is situated right on the edge of Exmoor with fabulous views up to the moor and also down to the sea. Our hut is lovingly handcrafted, fully insulated with cast wheels and is the perfect place to unwind and relax.

You are welcome to bring a tent for the duration of your booking in the shepherds hut. We do not allow any campers who aren’t connected with the Shepherd Hut so the site remains exclusive. Camping is in addition to the shepherd hut tariff at the rate of £10 per child per night and £15 per adult per night.

Shepherds Hut

**Benton View Shepherds Hut** is located just outside **Exmoor National Park** near the village of Benton, right in the middle of the breathtakingly gorgeous north **Devon** countryside.  The very welcoming owners have created an oasis here on their working farm; a small and exclusive one-party **glamping** site, set in beautiful rolling green meadows, with a single **handcrafted shepherds hu**t for two, with fantastic views up to the moor and down to the sea.  Another tent is welcome if there are more than two in your party, but the site is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay.

The location is very peaceful and wonderfully rural; the Shepherd’s hut sits proudly in the orchard on its cast wheels, with wooden steps leading up to the stable door.  It is surrounded by a low picket fence, so you won’t have any friendly goats joining you for dinner, and there is a well kept private garden with a barbeque area and a picnic bench for eating outdoors.  Inside the hut there is everything you need; a double bed for two, linen, a kitchenette with gas hob and sink, table and chairs and a log burner (with wood) to keep you cosy on chillier nights.  The shower and toilet are in a separate block and there is also access to a larger kitchen with fridge/freezer and microwave should you need it.  Nothing has been forgotten.  The wood panelled shepherd's hut is beautifully furnished - tasteful but unfussy - with pretty curtains and cushions making it homely and warm, and a welcome pack with a few basics will be there on arrival.  Because of the sheep, lambs and goats on the farm, you will have to leave your doggy pal at home for this one….but there will be no shortage of other friendly animals to cuddle if you want to!

It is blissfully tranquil at Benton View.  Guests are allowed to wander around the 14 acres of farmland, help with the animals or just sit and relax in the peaceful surroundings.  For exploring North Devon you could not be in a better place.  It is just a few miles from Exmoor National Park, a stunning landscape of wild moors, wooded valleys and secluded walking trails - perfect for hikers - and some wonderful cycling routes too.  The **beaches** of North Devon are also very close by, including the sandy stretches at **Ilfracombe**, **Woolacombe** and Putsborough beach at **Croyde** - renowned as one of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in the south west.  Here you can swim and surf or have a go at something wild, like coasteering!  For a more relaxing day trip, hop aboard the **Lynton and Barnstaple steam train**; the only steam railway in the UK where you can travel in the actual Victorian carriages that were designed in the 1890’s.  Or take the boat from Illfracombe to the National Trust’s **Lundy Island,** home to a fascinating array of wildlife - including **puffins** - and some seriously dramatic scenery.

Back at Benton View, relax in your private garden at the Shepherds Hut, fire up the barbeque and watch the sun setting over spectacular scenery.  Exmoor was Europe’s first ever International Dark Sky Reserve, which makes it one of the best places in the UK for stargazing; so just sit back, and enjoy the view…..

Benton View Shepherds Hut

The self-catering barn sleeps up to 10 people in 3 rooms, Coleridge, Dunkery and Snowdrop and has two shared shower rooms with WC. There is a well-equipped kitchen/dining area and drying room. We have a selection of DVDs, books, maps with suggested walks, smart TV and WIFI. There is a secure cycle storage area and garden with lawn, wildflower bank, seating and freestanding fire pit with BBQ grill.

Prices include heating, unlimited hot water, a quilt, pillow, bed linen and a bath towel per person. Beds will be made and a bath towel per person provided. We would ask that you strip the beds before your departure. We provide an initial supply of basic household essentials. There is a storage area for each guest and the bedrooms can be locked.

There is an option to have the fresh or frozen oven-ready meals delivered and we can recommend a private chef. These orders must be made in advance.

You will have access to the three bedrooms (sleeping up to 10 people), two shared shower rooms with WC, kitchen and dining room.

Coleridge is situated on the ground floor of the barn. The room sleeps two and has a super-king/twin bed, please make your request for a double/twin at the time of booking.

Dunkery sleeps 3, located on the first floor of the barn. The room consists of two single beds and one smaller single bed.

**Snowdrop**

Snowdrop sleeps 5, located on the first floor of the barn. The room consists of two sets of bunk beds and one single bed.

Parking for all guests is available on site and is free of charge.

The owners do not and will not accept responsibility for damages, loss including accidents or injury resulting from use in the barn, garden and car parking area.

The owners have the right to ask anybody to leave where they consider behaviour is unacceptable

Breakages are to be paid for and if an unacceptable amount of cleaning is necessary with regards to the barn and bed linen a charge will be made.

The Barn

The barn previously formed the original milking parlour and dairy, plus two attached stables with a long feed store above. It is believed to have been built between 1840 and 1890, with stone walls that are two feet thick, pillars and attractive arch windows.
The popular Coleridge Way runs through the farm and nearby is the West Coastal Path which is ideal for walkers and cyclists. During your stay, we hope you will experience the wonderful night skies of Exmoor and maybe explore the beautiful rugged coastline of Somerset and the surfing beaches of North Devon.

We are close to open moorland and overlook Snowdrop Valley and the River Avill. Directly from the Coleridge Way on the farm is a network of 600 miles of public footpaths and bridleways. Exmoor has the largest herd of wild red deer in England and the popular native Exmoor Ponies can be seen roaming freely on the moor.
Wildlife is abundant, especially for bird enthusiasts and those who love the night skies. We are a short distance from Dunkery Beacon (standing at 1702ft) which enjoys some of the finest rural views over the Bristol Channel, Wales and up to 86 miles away.
Nearby is the beautiful medieval village of Dunster, with its famous castle and yarn market where there is also a good selection of shops and places to eat. Dunster also provides the nearest beach.
The well-known Victorian town of Minehead is within easy reach and offers a wide range of attractions, beaches, picturesque harbour, public gardens and good shopping. Tarr Steps, a clapper bridge that crosses over the river Barle, and the Grade II* listed Landacre Bridge which carries traffic over the river are near Withypool, a quiet and unspoilt village surrounded by open moorland.
Also nearby is the village of Dulverton with great places to eat and shop and the Dulverton Heritage Centre offering a wealth of information and the popular Exmoor Pony Centre. Also, Porlock and Porlock Weir offer great places to eat, beautiful scenic walks, outdoor activities and the delicacy of local Porlock Oysters.
Though the neighbouring county of Dorset is better known for its fossils, Somerset also has some fantastic locations. The coastline of Watchet, Blue Anchor and Kilve is within a 40-minute drive and hold particular geological interest, with a variety of fossils being found along the coastline.
Snowdrop Valley: This event is officially open every year at the end of January/beginning of February, and requires only a walk down the lane. See the beautiful snowdrops and walk through the wonderful woodland alongside the River Avill. Enjoy the tea, cakes and more made available in the village after your walk.
Dark Skies: Ideal for stargazers, weather permitting, look to the night skies above Dunkery Beacon as Exmoor offers Europe’s first international dark sky reserve. Recognised in 2011 by the International Dark Skies Association for its low levels of light pollution, we have a festival of activities for two weeks during October/November every year.
On Exmoor, you will find rolling farmland, ancient woodlands, moors, hills and secluded river valleys. From Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in Exmoor National park, on a clear night you can see up to 3000 stars with the naked eye. Star-gazing here is an all year round activity, but the winter months provide greater darkness, giving you the best chance to see the Orion constellation which is visible in the Northern Hemisphere night sky between November and February.
This is a lovely place to find peace and tranquillity, and a wonderful place to explore!

Exmoor Camping Barn

Come and stay in our lovely Drovers Hut, built on an ex-army ammunition trailer, it was bought by a local farmer who planned to turn it into a large trailer for carrying hay bales.  We found it in a hedge, covered in ivy and with a tree growing up through it.  We bought it, de-treed it and turned it into this lovely, cosy, romantic hut.

The Drovers Hut has sleeping for 5-6, including a king-size bed, single bunks and a trestle bed which pulls out from under the main king-size bed.

It has a gorgeous country kitchen with a Belfast sink, solid oak worktop, dresser top, two burner gas hob, a table and benches and a wonderful wood burning range stove with oven and hobs above.  Lighting is powered by solar panels and candles for added ambience.  The kitchen is equipped with pots and pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery.

All the beds have comfy memory foam mattresses, and plump pillows and are made up of quality linen.

The drovers hut is fitted out beautifully, in a lovely peaceful corner of the field, and has a decking area which has two gates to secure it for dogs or children. The Drovers hut has outdoor seating, a picnic table, a fire pit/ BBQ and a lovely wood-fired hot tub. Adjacent to the hut sits a private bathroom with a flushing loo, hand basin and hot shower.

There is access, via a style to a wild garden with a stream running through it.  Perfect for, just sitting quietly with nature, exploring, bear hunts or searching for fairies! You can also walk the footpath from the farm, to explore Wistlandpound Reservoir.

Well-behaved dogs are permitted at £5 per night, please do not leave dogs in the hut unattended. Please also keep in mind the neighbouring farm animals that live on the premises when bringing your companion.

Eggs from the hens are also collected and left in the laundry room, with an honesty box for you to help yourselves, guests are also welcome to collect eggs straight from the next boxes. You will also have access to our toilet block which is heated all year round. Complete with drying wall, electrical sockets, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

*The shepherd’s hut was traditionally used in the 19th and 20th centuries by shepherds during sheep raising and lambing. They were also used while moving flocks around for “natural fertilizer” purposes.*

Our home-built shepherd hut is beautifully equipped with everything you will need for a relaxing, memorable, comfortable stay.  There is a comfy king-size bed and a **child bunk** above with memory foam mattresses made up of fresh duvets, plump pillows and beautiful linen.

The kitchen area contains a ceramic sink with hot and cold running water, a gas hob, pretty china crockery, and kitchen and cooking utensils. The wood-burning stove will keep you toasty warm and the views from the stable door towards Wistlandpound Reservoir are amazing.

The Shepherd Hut is set away on its own and has a fenced garden and gated access to the stream. Outside is a wooden picnic bench, a fire pit and a lovely wood-fired hot tub.

Shepherd’s huts often had iron wheels and corrugated iron tops. We’ve built this one ourselves and reinvented it slightly it’s the perfect romantic getaway.  Come and live out your childhood gipsy dreams

The Shepherd Hut and Hot Tub

At the top of the farm, separate from the glamping and camping fields, closer to the road we have a Caravan and motorhome Club 5 CL site.

The Caravan Club site has a licence for 5 caravans or motorhomes all on specially levelled sites, all on hard standings. All have electric hookups, and water and grey waste connections at each pitch. We have a chemical disposal point and members can also use the laundry room and the lovely new toilet and shower block with all-year-round heating

*Back to basics camping just like it used to be!*

If you would like to camp in an open field, under the stars, with a small campfire outside your tent, where you can sit and watch the night sky, with a beer in your hand then this is the camping site for you!

Our camping fields offer plenty of space. We charge per person, not per pitch, so there is no extra charge for bell tents and you are welcome to bring gazebos or toilet tents.

For families, there is plenty of room for children to run and play in the camping field. Children are most welcome to visit the farm animals, we will show you around. Collect freshly laid eggs, from the hens for breakfast.
Being close to Exmoor there is very little light pollution; when you are staying remember to look up and see the stars!

Thinking of having a party or camping break with your friends? We will let the whole camping field for a reasonable price. Get together with all your friends around the campfire!

Grass Pitch

Stay in comfort in our NEW off grid accomodation, The Crinkly Cabin!

Can sleep up to 8, but also perfect for couples and young families.

The new Cabin (made from shipping containers, converted by ourselves here on the farm) set privately in a 3 acre field next to a babbling stream, at the bottom of the farm where there are lovely views of the surrounding North Devon Countryside.  Couples and families can enjoy the peace and tranquillity away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Walk over the wooden bridge to the Cabin, children can play in the stream, add some more stones to the dam or just run around the 3 acre field.

The Crinkly Cabin contains a kitchen with off grid fridge, a two burner gas hob, hot and cold water, we made the kitchen worktop ourselves from concrete with semi-precious stones set in.  There is an open plan living area with double doors giving access to the field the cabin is set in. In the living area is a wood burning stove with small oven above.  There are two bedrooms each capable of sleeping up to 4.  With a kingsize bed in each room, a single day bed with an occasional bed underneath, this bed can be moved from room to room if required. Just outside the door is the shower room with flushing loo, sink and large shower, hot water is provided by a gas boiler.   

In a secluded area for cabin guests only, is a firepit with bbq plate, wood fired sauna, hot tub and outside seating

A short walk away, at the top of the field, past the chickens from whom you are welcome to collect fresh eggs for your breakfast,  are more toilets,  showers, a bigger fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble drier and electric sockets in case you can’t quite manage off grid for too long.

Taking you back to Nature, Glamping in North Devon. Our charming Shepherd Hut and Drovers Hut, come with a private hot tub on the edge of Exmoor National Park. For 2023 we have our NEW Crinkly Cabin, with private Hot Tub and Sauna, a unique home built, off grid glamping accommodation. 

We are a small working farm on the edge of the Exmoor National Park, near to the North Devon Coast. Our aim here is to enable you to wind down and reconnect with nature.

Our Huts and Cabin have their own firepits, BBQ’s and kitchens so there is no need to share any of these with other guests. 

We want our visitors to really feel at home on our site and we know just how important the toilet and shower facilities are during any camping holiday. That’s why our washrooms are checked often throughout the day and cleaned twice daily. Thanks to a biomass boiler the showers and washbasins are supplied with an abundance of free hot water and we have year round heating in the toilet block.

Perfect for any holiday break, these are the main meadows some 25 acres of beautiful lush green meadows, with the occasional picnic bench and stunning views across the valley. Choose a spot and pitch-up mind the wild pheasant that potter around the field. Ideal for larger parties Remember this is eco rustic wild camping without any frills, but within a safe environment on a fully working farm. It gives you chance to be at one with nature and your surroundings. Children under 1 years old are included, 2 to 16 Years old, please add these on the extras after you have booked the adults on the next screen.

A two room eco style glamping barrel with a double bedroom and the family area has a double sofa bed and small table and chairs, complete with outdoor bbq cooking area and picnic bench. The Eco Toilets and a Hot shower are a short walk from the Pod. Set main meadow which is around 30 acres has the Taw river surrounding its boundary. The Pod is 5 metres from the waters edge within the woodland, relax at the picnic table included and see and hear that beautiful relaxing sound. Battery lights inside, as its completely off grid.

The main meadow which is around 25 acres has the Taw river surrounding its boundary. The water is crystal clear and there are amazing areas where you can paddle and deeper areas to have a swim. These pitch-up areas are limited but all within 5 metres of the waters edge. Wild life ranges fro families of geese, ducks and the occasional swan, and occasionally you can see the odd salmon fish jumping out the river. Remember this is eco rustic wild camping without any frills, but within a safe environment on a fully working farm. It gives you chance to be at one with nature and your surroundings.



Riverside Pitches

The farm is owned by ecologists couple, who are passionate about the outstanding wildlife the farm supports. Their priority is to conserve and enhance the farm for nature, and grazing livestock is integral to this goal. Managed organically (without the use of artificial pesticides, fertilisers and other chemicals), the grassland is grazed by a herd rare and endangered cattle, it is nestled within a private stretch of the idyllic Taw river within the truly enchanting valley full of wildlife, set in the beautiful North Devon countryside.

Choose from camping next to the riverbank, listening to the trickling water and watch carefully to see the occasional otter, or in the meadows and watch the wild life with our resident pheasants and squirrels, listen to the morning chorus as the birds welcome in the morning, or camp in the woodlands as our two baby dear graze through the woodland.

Traditionally managed, flower rich meadows bordered by dense berry and flower filled hedgerows and ancient woodland. The meadows are also home to the flock of laying hens, and their guardian cockerel to provide the most delicious organic eggs.

Be inspired by nature, reconnect, be happy, sleep, fall in love. Turn off your phone and savour the quiet. Rise with the sun, marvel at the dawn chorus, awaken your senses and feel revived to back pedal, muse, and wonder.

At dusk bats fly overhead and owls can be heard calling across the river, which itself is home to not only salmon, but warblers, curlews, egrets, otter, geese, ducks and swans....

On a clear night you can lie in bed and star gaze, listen to red deer stags roaring in autumn and the early morning chorus of song birds.

Although in a very secluded area we are just a five minute drive to the nearest village, with a shop & post office that sells nearly everything, together with two public houses & a church, the town of South Molton is 6 miles, Barnstaple & Tiverton 18 miles & the stunning North Devon sandy beaches approximately 25 miles. Junction 27 of the M5 motorway is a 30 minute drive away.
