The site is in the Mendip Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Set in your own private  meadow surrounded on three sides by woodland, the yurt is an oasis for wild life. You may be lucky enough to get a visit from our local deer who often amble into your own meadow, normally in the morning. You will certainly be serenaded by the wild birds.

**Facilities:** The yurt has a king sized brass bed and the bedding is Egyptian cotton. The skylight lets you stargaze all night. As well as a wood burning stove there is an electric blanket,hot water bottles, woollen blankets and an electric heater for extra comfort on chilly nights. The veranda is great for watching the sun sink at the end of the day. Hammocks, a picnic table and barbecue area with seating, swings and badminton are available outside. We have some impressive sunsets over the Severn Estuary from May through to August.

You have your own private hot shower and wash house next to the yurt, along with wash basin and eco toilet. Inside the yurt is a fridge, kettle, toaster and single hot plate, along with all the kitchenware you'll need, so you don’t have to brave the elements for a cuppa on chilly mornings.
Outside is a double sink with drinking water running hot and cold with sprays and soaps supplied.
 Down on the ground sheltered beside the verandah is the barbecue area with an unlimited supply of wood and a big steel firepit to cook up a storm or just slowly warm up a few of our marshmallows on our special forks.

**Local Area:** There are many well-regarded pubs within walking distance at either end of the Batch. The Crown and the Nelson at the bottom of the hill(10-15 mins walk), the Star and the Swan(15-20mins walk - you may want to book beforehand) in the opposite direction and Thatcher’s Railway Inn over in Sandford. Churchill village is 15minutes walk away on the western edge of the Mendip Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, about 8 miles east of Weston-super-Mare, and about 15 miles south-west of Bristol.The village has a busy post office selling food and drink and dispensing cash as well as having a small cafe. There are many walks, cycle paths including the famous Strawberry line, and other outdoor activities nearby. Cheddar offers many beautiful walks, trails, cycle paths and lovely tea shops, and is also walkable from the yurt (about three hours!).

**Your neighbours:** You may find deer, foxes, squirrels, owls and the unseen badgers hanging out already. The rescue chickens will almost be certainly be round to check you out. The meadow has a variety of wild flowers including wild orchids. The wood behind the yurt is a mix of ash, oak, hazel and hawthorn hiding you from view for most of the year.

This is simple camping! Every pitch has a firepit. You can bring your own wood or buy a bag or two from the onsite owner or forage in the nearby woods. Basic toilet facilities with soaps and gels and a library. Solar showers available.  Tap with drinking water, washing up bowls and a large sink. 

Shared fridge and freezer. We will recycle or dispose of all your waste. Parking is 50m from the campfield. You can use our wheelbarrows to transport your equipment to your pitch. Beautiful views and dark skies. Maps and walking guides available.
Orchard with seating, hammock and swings. Games area including badminton. Chickens roaming free.

Dowlais Farm was bought by business partners David, Kathrin, John and Lucy in 2017 and the restoration process was started immediately. The first step was to move the landscaping business run by David and John onto the premises.  The farmhouse was very run down but after a lot of TLC David and Kathrin moved in in May 2018. The same year the sheep were added to the farm and a year later our chickens joined us. ​

Due to the size of the farm and the number of outbuildings the renovation process continues and we are currently turning the barn adjacent to the farmhouse into holiday lets. The two units will be available to rent later in 2022.

Since spring 2022 Dowlais Farm is also proud to be part of the Greener Camping Club. All Greener Camping Club campsites are carefully assessed for their sustainability, impact on the environment and opportunities for wildlife.

Kingfisher Cottage

TOURING & MOTORHOME
Idyllic positions overlooking the confluence of the rivers Cripps and Brue. There are 6 hard standing pitches which are all fully serviced. 4 along the riverside and 2  just behind the riverside pitches. Probably some of the best riverside pitches for caravanning in Somerset.
Once you become a regular at Cripps Farm you will receive a 10% discount on every booking made on the touring site.
Minimum of two nights to be booked and Three-nights on a bank holiday weekend.
Occupancy shall be from 12 pm on the day of arrival to 11 am on the day of departure unless agreed otherwise.
Extra charges- Fishing lakes £5 a day or £3 for half a day, showers at 50p via the meter, Wi-fi and laundry facilities.
Store and stay – no more towing, let us site your caravan on your chosen pitch ready for your arrival and place your caravan back into storage, once your holiday has ended.

Dogs
Quiet dogs are welcome accompanied by responsible owners by prior agreement. You must ensure that the dog(s) are always kept on a lead. All fouling must be collected and disposed of using the bags and bins provided. Don’t leave your dogs’ alone in the caravans for long periods of time.  All fouling is to be cleared up before departure.



TOURING & MOTORHOME

Hidden away in a peaceful corner of the lovely county of Somerset, on the banks of a river and in beautifully landscaped grounds, you will be very warmly welcomed at Cripps Farm Holidays.  Set across acres of rolling farmland near Bason Bridge, Cripps Farm is just a few miles from the seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea and the many coastal attractions nearby.  Guests staying at the campsite will be treated to glorious views across Somerset to the Mendips, Glastonbury Tor and the Quantock hills.  

Cripps Farm Holidays have lots of accommodation options and something for everyone.  There are 29 seasonal pitches, fully serviced and with either a riverside or countryside view - both stunning - which make for a rather special permanent holiday retreat for those who manage to bag one.  Not to worry if you don’t, there are also six good sized touring pitches, fully serviced and boasting possibly some of the loveliest riverside spots in Somerset.  In addition to this, they have 4 self catering cottages to book as well, all within the same carefully looked after and landscaped grounds, with pristine flowers beds and well-mown fields.

There are a number of peaceful walks around the campsite’s surrounding fields, including a long enclosed walk where your dog can have a good run around.  There is a well maintained toilet and shower block with underfloor heating and laundry facilities.  For those who like angling, the stars of the show are two rather lovely fishing lakes which are very well stocked with Rudd, Roach, Perch, Bream, Chub, Tench and Carp.  Fishing on the River Cripps and River Bure is also available.  And if you have canoes, explore the river from the water and enjoy the abundance of wildlife; look out for kingfishers, buzzards, otters and wild deer among other things.  Along with the wild animals to spot, there are also lots of farm animals for the kids to meet here, including cows, pigs and lambs in the spring.

There is so much to explore and enjoy in the local area, from Victorian seaside towns, medieval villages, stunning beaches, miles of rural countryside full of wildlife and nature trails, the gorges and caves of the Mendips and the lovely cities of Wells and Bath.  The location of Cripps Farm is incredible for exploring all of Somerset’s gems, but relaxing at the campsite might just be all the holiday you need, it really is a lovely spot.  Especially with the news that this year sees the opening of Cripps River Spa, a little haven of tranquility right on the campsite, offering a sauna, hot tub (with stunning views across the countryside of course), a treatment room and all round blissful relaxation.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  With walking, cycling, fishing all on your doorstep, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and bustling towns and pretty villages to explore, this Somerset campsite makes for a great holiday destination.

The tents are equipped with Crockery, Cutlery, pans etc along with a large cool box to keep your Prosecco cold on the warm evenings. There is an ordnance survey map of the local area, information books and a pair of mini binoculars to help you enjoy your stay. Tea, coffee etc are provided in Cheats Kitchen where you will find the electric kettle, toaster, fridge freezer and extra charging points for phones etc.

Outdoor games are also available in case you would like to enjoy a game of croquet or maybe quoits?

The Screech Belle 

Adult only peace and quiet on The Mendip Hills overlooking Cheddar Village and Cheddar reservoir, we are tucked away in an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by spectacular views, amazing sunsets and dark skies for stargazing, it really is a fantastic location. Situated on the West Mendip Way with footpaths direct from Owley leading to Cheddar Village with its many tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, Cheddar Gorge and the Mendip Hills, it is the perfect location for you if you enjoy an active break or just need to chill. Ideal for walking, hiking, climbing, caving, cycling or just relaxing and listening to the birds and the owls. Just five spacious fully equipped Lotus Belle Tents have exclusive use of the one-acre paddock with flushing toilets and hot showers.

The tents are equipped with Crockery, Cutlery, pans, etc, along with a large cool box to keep your Prosecco cold on the warm evenings. There is an ordnance survey map of the local area, information books and a pair of mini binoculars to help you enjoy your stay. Tea, coffee etc are provided in Cheats Kitchen where you will find the electric kettle, toaster, fridge freezer and mains electric sockets for extra phone charging or hair dryers etc etc.

Your first basket of logs/kindling/firelighters and a pack of charcoal are provided with extras available in the honesty shop. Complimentary water from Cheddar Springs and Honey from our bee hives at Owley can also be found here.

Equipped with almost everything you need, just bring clothes, towels, provisions and a torch for stress free camping!

In a wonderful location at the foot of the beautiful **Mendip Hills** in the county of **Somerset**, is the small and lovely **Rodney Stoke Caravan and Camping Park**; exclusively for **adults only** and a great spot for those looking for a quiet and peaceful break.  The campsite is set in pretty countryside between **Cheddar** and the city of **Wells**, and if you are lucky enough to bag one of the 26 pitches, you will find a traditional and well run campsite with both grassy and hardstanding pitches and the choice of electricity if you wish.  The facilities are excellent, with a brand new shower and toilet block which is kept very clean, and the Park Warden - Tom - making sure everyone is well looked after. It is a flat, accessible and well-maintained site, welcoming tents, caravans and motorhomes. Your four-legged dog friends are also very welcome here too.  
 
Location-wise, you could not be better placed for exploring this part of the country.  The stunning **Mendips** - an **Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty** - is a stone’s throw from the campsite, and from here you can explore this wonderful landscape of limestone hills, spectacular gorges, picturesque lakes and mysterious underground caverns.  There are some fantastic walking trails for hikers - with many routes along the **Mendip Way** - and cyclists, rock climbers and horse riders will find plenty to keep them occupied here too.  Attractions include the world famous **Cheddar Gorge** - just three miles from Rodney Stoke -  Britain’s biggest gorge at over 400 feet deep and 3 miles long.  Here you can explore the 500,000 year old underground caves and find out all about the discovery of Britain’s oldest complete skeleton - **Cheddar Man** - who was found here in 1903 and is estimated to be around 9000 years old.  The **show caves**, full of stalagmites and stalactites, are a wonder to behold and there is also a museum to explain all about the history of this extraordinary place.  If that’s not enough underground excitement, The **Wookey Hole** **Caves** are also a very popular tourist attraction; as well as the stunning caverns there are gardens, woodland walks and many other family friendly activities to do here.

Fifteen minutes away from Rodney Stoke Caravan and Camping Park is the medieval city of **Wells**, England’s smallest city and named because of the natural springs that can still be found in the gorgeous gardens of **Bishops Palace**.  It is a great place for a wander around with its narrow streets, lively markets and of course, the dominant 13th Century Cathedral.  Other nearby places of interest include the mystical **Glastonbury Tor**, the seaside town of **Burnham on Sea** and a little further away, the Roman built City of **Bath**.

Back at the campsite, there’s no need to cook if you’re not in the mood.  The Rodney Stoke Inn lies just in front of the campsite and offers delicious food with no staggering distance at all after a big meal.  For something a bit different, walk 20 minutes to the quirky Cider Barn, serving sourdough pizzas and a great selection of West Country ciders and ales.  If you are planning a holiday in the Mendip Hills, Rodney Stoke is an excellent choice for a peaceful break in a fantastic location.
