The Shipley Glen Cable Tramway is the oldest cable funicular in Great Britain (cliff lifts excepted). Dating from 1895, the line was created to provide access to the beauty which is local to Shipley Glen near Saltaire in West Yorkshire. The woodland trip provides a nice alternative to the path. A short stroll brings you to a Cafe and Pub. The tramway is almost a quarter-mile in length. Roberts Park plus the River Aire are all within a comfortable walk, as well as the delights of Saltaire with Salt's Mill as well and the famous Hockney Gallery. As well as rides on the trams, there is a souvenir shop at the top station offering candies. There is an Edwardian shop at the bottom station. The museum at the bottom section displays pictures and memorabilia associated with tramway in addition to Shipley Glen. You can find interesting displays which are pictorial memories of the tramway and Shipley Glen in the past. The museum starts when the tramway is open and entry is free of charge.
