The Wild Cattle Park extends to 700 acres and, for many centuries, has been the home of the unique herd of Chillingham Wild Cattle. The Chillingham Wild Cattle are untouched by human hand. You can visit the Cattle with the Warden, who will keep you safe and tell you all about this unique her of cattle and their historic surroundings
The Park is also home to plenty of other interesting flora and fauna, including free roaming Roe and Fallow Deer. Less often spotted but resident in the Park are the Red Squirrels, Foxes and Badgers. The Park is home to over 50 species of birds, The Park in its current form, was laid out in 1790 and many of the trees date from that period, although there are many much older trees, including the ancient alders along the streams.
The Park was, until fairly recently, the pleasure grounds of Chillingham Castle. The Castle is now in separate ownership and is also open to the public. So why not make a day of your visit to Chillingham and visit the Cattle in the morning and the Castle afterwards?
