Bursledon Brickworks were built in 1897 and are the only steam driven brickworks left in the country. All of the original machinery is in place and you can follow the process of a lump of clay becoming a brick. The old factory is steeped in authentic sights and sounds - even smells! One Sunday a month we steam up the engine and get all the working machinery turning again. On our steam-up days we get very busy as you can imagine and have other activities on site including our miniature railway running. However, if you would like to just come and learn about our history and about bricks in general - a huge part of our social history - then please check our website for opening times. There is a great coffee shop on site, free car parking and activities for children. We are very dog friendly as well.
