Beech Croft Farm is a truly lovely caravan and camping site located between Buxton and Bakewell in Derbyshire, right at the heart of the glorious Peak District. There are so many things to rave about here, but what makes guests want to come back again and again are the wonderful family who own and run Beech Croft Farm and who go above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect.
The campsite itself is in a small hamlet and this lovely rural location makes for beautiful views of the surrounding countryside in complete peace and quiet. There are 30 level hardstanding pitches with the full works: electric hook up, water point and a TV aerial socket. For campers in tents, there are three lovely green fields to choose from where you can pick your pitch. The facilities here are excellent and spotlessly clean; a heated shower and toilet block, washing up station, a laundry room, a dog exercise area, play areas for children and an undercover “campers cabin”, equipt with a very welcome hot drinks machine and microwave. Beech Croft Farm is also home to a fantastic onsite shop which sells a raft of marvellous treats, showcasing the best of local produce; ales and cider, Derbyshire wines, handmade chocolates, fresh bread and cakes and free range meat from the local butchers. If you like eating well and supporting local traders, then forget the supermarket and stock up here.
The owners have put thoughtful care into making the campsite convenient and attractive for everyone who stays, without any cost to the environment, and for the last 5 years they have been the proud owners of the David Bellamy Gold conservation award. Aside from making the site as eco friendly as possible, they have also added a Butterfly garden and planted new shrubs and flowers to attract butterflies and bees, put up owl boxes and bird feeders around the park and even have a homemade bug shelter - a minibeast “hotel” - to safeguard their habitats.
The Peak District is a magical place and Beech Croft Farm is well situated to experience the very best of the area, and perfectly positioned for some fabulous walks. One of the favourites is the Monsal Trail which is easily accessed from the Pennine Bridleway running directly past the campsite entrance and you can either walk this, or hire a bike and cycle the many different routes. Visiting the nearby caverns and showcaves is also a very popular thing to do. The Peak District is home to a large number of extraordinary and unique caverns which are great for an adventure; at Speedwell Cavern you can take a boat trip 450 metres under the Hills of Castleton and follow the paths of a 18th Century lead mine, or visit Peak Cavern, with the largest natural cave entrance chamber in the UK.
But it’s not all about hiking the Peaks or strapping on a head torch and going underground. It’s a 20 minute drive to the country house of Chatsworth and around the same to the beautiful 12th century manor of Haddon Hall. The ‘Heights of Abraham’ Country Park and Matlock Farm park are also close by. Beech Croft Farm makes a great base from which to explore all these local treasures and with all that the family are doing to improve and conserve the campsite, it is safe to say that it is a bit of a local treasure itself!
