About this place

Please note: Dogs are allowed by prior arrangement, please contact support via the live chat or support@holidayfox.com to confirm prior to booking! Spread over 3 meadows: - Main Meadow, rope swings, hammocks, wooded areas and river to explore whilst staying near toilets and showers. Cars are allowed to unload then park away from pitches(approx 40m). A real family favourite. - Railway Meadow, our largest camping meadow, sited away from the riverbank. Cars are allowed to park next to pitches. - Little Brooks Meadow, this is our couples and adults only meadow or is available for sole usage for large groups (can easily accommodate 30-40 tents). This is my favourite campsite area of approx 2 acres along the riverbank and away from the crowds. It has toilets, and water in the field (the hot showers are in the main field about a 300yd walk away). Cars allowed to unload and park away from camping area. Depending on your booking, you will be allocated the appropriate meadow for your group.

Ouse Meadow is more than just a campsite: a true outdoor adventure awaits you here in the beautiful East Sussex green and rolling countryside…..wild camping with few rules and regulations but a few little luxuries to make your camping trip easy and stress free. Situated next to the National Trust’s Sheffield Park Gardens and opposite the Bluebell Steam Railway - is a relaxed and laid back campsite. Think river swimming, fire building, campfire cooking, den building, messing about on the river - all in the tranquil and idyllic environs of East Sussex loveliness. As far as they possibly can, the owners let campers camp; making their own plans and their own holiday in the countryside. It is tents and small campervans only here, off grid, with no set pitches; Ouse Meadow provides acres of space, a wonderful atmosphere and just enough facilities to make it easy, without spoiling the wild camping feel of the whole experience.

And it really is an experience at Ouse Meadow. Of the Swallows and Amazons there is a variety. From borrowing flint steel to light your own campfire and exploring the countryside, this place is full of adventures just waiting to be had. If that sounds far too exhausting and the idea of even pitching a tent is too much, then - hurrah! - they have thought of that too, in the shape of pop up bell tents. You can go for a basic bell tent or the full luxury works with a double futon bed, tea light lanterns and soft furnishing….all set up and ready before you arrive. Lush.

The campsite itself is spread out over three meadows: the family favourite - Main Meadow - close to the river with rope swings, hammocks, table tennis, table football and other garden games ; Railway Meadow - the largest field - the only one which allows vehicles to park next to pitches, and Little Brooks Meadow which is for couples and adult groups (or sole usage for large groups of up to 40 tents.) Little Brooks runs all the way along the riverbank and is set slightly away from everyone else. There are three open air showers so you can wash while admiring the treetops, and in addition, a brand new toilet block has recently opened which is cleaned regularly. For a night off the cooking, check out the very welcome pizza van which parks up on (most) Saturdays or walk along the footpaths and country lanes into nearby Newick, where you will find lovely local pubs serving great homemade food. There is also a shop here for any supplies.

In all honesty, upping sticks and leaving your lovely surroundings will probably be the last thing on your mind…..but, if you do head out, there are some gorgeous walks and cycle routes nearby. The ancient heathland of Ashdown Forest - Winnie the Pooh country - is right on the doorstep and a visit to Pooh Sticks Bridge in the heart of the forest is a lovely trip. There are some stunning nature reserves to walk through, the Bluebell heritage railway next door for a ride on a steam train or even take a llama for a walk at the nearby Llama Park. It is a back to nature, chilled out campsite, but you are not far from lots of East Sussex’s best attractions should you want to explore the surrounding area.
