Family Surf Lessons in Newquay
Family

Surfing is a fun and exhilarating activity for you and your kids. At the Escape Surf School, we teach children to surf from 8 years and above and we ask that thay can swim at least 50 metres.

You can book your kids onto our standard group surf lessons*, or we also offer private family surfing lessons, which is a really fun way to spend time with the family and learn to surf.

*if children aged between 8-12 are booked onto Group Surf Lessons, we ask that a parent / guardian also joins them in the water, due to the physicality of the activity. If the parent / guardian is not joining the surf lesson, then we can provide a wetsuit so they can enter the water with the children. 

Our Family Surf Lesson costs &pound;160 and includes:

A private surf lesson for you and your family with one of our professional surf coaches (up to 2 adults and 2 children, or 1 adult and 3 children)
All equipment is included: wetsuits, surfboards and boots and gloves if its in the colder months. We have a wide selection of wetsuits and boards, so you can be sure we'll have the right fitting equipment
Use of the Escape Surf School facilties including hot showers and changing rooms

All our surf lessons, from the half day to the 6 lesson course are tailored towards your individual level of surfing which we will assess on the day.

On every session, we usually have a mixture of beginners and those that may have had 1 or 2 lessons and perhaps some more advanced surfers, therefore we will usually have at least 2 or 3 instructors coaching; one for each level of surfing

We always assess your ability on the day, and assign you to the correct group  this ensures that you will never receive the same lesson twice, as you will progress.

Whether you are a complete beginner or surf regularly, you will benefit from a lesson with the Escape Surf School. As well as teaching the technique and skill of surfing we also place a great emphasis on safety and water awareness. We pride ourselves on being flexible, so if there is not a course to suit you, just give us a call and we can discuss your requirements.

95% of our lessons, take place on Towan Beach, which is a 1 minute walk from the surf school which is an ideal beach for learning and progressing quickly. Occasionally we use Great Western or Fistral beach, all of which are less than 5 minutes walk from the school. So we meet at the school, where we all change into wetsuits, and then proceed to the best beach for the conditions, tides and clients ability.

All our lessons are 2 hours long and include all equipment

We are flexible. If you want to spread your lessons over a few days, you can - at no extra cost, so maybe you would like to have 3 lessons over 6 days, thats fine!

Perfect for beginners looking for an introduction to surfing, or a quick surfing fix for those with some experience!

For students on a first lesson we will introduce all of the skills and techniques necessary to surf with control and safety. You'll be riding the waves with style at the end of this session!

If you have already surfed, then we will use this session to build on more advanced techniques, including paddling, turning and reading the ocean. The lesson will be tailored to your ability, which we'll assess at the start of the session.

2 Lessons | A Full Day Surf Adventure - &pound;65

The lessons will be tailored to your individual level of surfing guaranteeing you get the most out of the session. The 2 sessions can be taken over 1 or 2 days as required and are targeted to your current ability.

Each session is 2 hours long, and there will usually be a 1-2 hour break between each session, however this time is affected by the tide times and conditions.

If you are a beginner, then you will be shown the basics of surfing on the first couple of lessons, perfecting the technique of getting to your feet and riding the waves consistently. We'll then move to more progressive techniques, including turning, paddling, pop-up and wave awareness.

For those who've already surfed, we'll work on more progressive & technical coaching. Depending upon your current ability, this can include outback surfing (riding unbroken or "green" waves), turning, paddling, positioning. We'll assess your ability on the first session

This is an intensive course aimed at maximum water time over a short period, although you can spread the lessons over 4 days if you like, 

6 lessons | 6 Day Surfing Beach Break - &pound;150

A great course based over one week (6 days). Come and surf with us and live the surf lifestyle in the centre of UK surfing.

This course is suitable for all abilities, whether you are a complete beginner or have surfed before. You will be shown basic techniques through to advanced techniques like paddling correctly, turning and reading the ocean and waves. 

Lots of water time so a great opportunity to become a competent surfer. You can also progress from beginner boards to more technical surf boards.

This course is based on 1 surf lesson per day, however if you are feeling really enegetic, you could complete 6 lessons over the course of 3 days (2 per day)!
Children's Summer Surf Sessions
Kids surf Sessions 

New for Summer 2020, we are offering kids only Surf Sessions, aimed at children aged 8-13.
Running Monday - Friday from the 13th July to the 4th of Septmber, let us look after the children and teach them how to surf on Towan beach, which is Newquays best beginner beach.

The Surf Sessions are each 2 hours long and we'll focus on having fun, catching lots of waves and giving your child expert surf coaching, whilst at the same time building their confdence, learning valuable ocean knowledge and making friends with other kids!

The lessons are scheduled based on the tides, so the start times can vary, but you can schedule and choose your preferred dates and times, when booking.

Spaces are limited, so we reccommend booking in advance. We'd also reccommend you book them onto the full 5 day course as this will give them maximum water time, enabling them to really progress in their surfing.

The price includes all equipment (surfboard and wetsuit) and all the children are able to use our secure changing rooms and showers for before and after the lesson.

Kneeboarding Lesson

Kneeboarding allows you to learn the same principles as you would in "regular"surfing but instead it simplifies the amount of steps to follow . You only need to use your knees so it is great for kids, parents, or those with limited mobility. Kneeboarding with ESS in Newquay can be taught in the bathing area of a lifeguarded beach, which is great as there is no need to compete with other surfers. You will be straight to your knee's, so you will now have more time to learn the core ingredients of surfing; Using the rails, S-turning, Figure of 8 and Layback.

Are you some one who is new to the water and want's an alternative to surfing and body boarding. Use it as a taster session to learn new skills

Bodyboarding is a great introduction to the ocean. If you are not feeling very confident in the waves yet, then start here. We work on how to read the surf while getting you to understand the importance of weight and balance on a board. This is great for kids, parents, really anyone can part take in it.

Although all our surf lessons are inclusive of equipment, you may wish to practise your new found surfing skills on your own. If this is the case, then we also offer a hire service of surf boards and wetsuits, as well as boots and gloves.

We hold a huge range of surf boards including: softboards, minimals^ hard boards in a variety of sizes from 5'10" to 9"

Our wetsuits are top of the range swinter suits and we alos stock boots, gloves and hoods

All hire customers are able to use our changing rooms and hot showers, as well as keep your belongings in our changing rooms

Escape Surf School Newquay
